Vitamin A May Reduce Stomach Cancer Risk

Dr. Susanna C. Larsson of the Karolinska Institute,
Stockholm, and team, analyzed data for 82,000 Swedish adults
who were tracked for about seven years after they had filled
out food-frequency questionnaires in 1997. The investigators
found that participants who consumed the most dietary and
total vitamin A (including animal-based retinol and
plant-based carotenoids) were significantly less likely to
develop gastric cancer than those with the lowest vitamin A
intakes. The scientists speculate that vitamin A may reduce
the risk of developing gastric cancer by “controlling cell
proliferation “
