Oils May Cause Breast Growth in Boys
(Boston, AP, 1/31/07)
Researchers at the University of Colorado report that
exposure to lavender or tea tree oil can cause breast
enlargement (gynecomastia) in children. The study cites the
cases of three boys, aged 4,7 and 10, whose breasts returned
to normal once they stopped using products containing these
natural oils. The scientists performed lab tests on human
cells to determine the effect of these oils and they concluded
that the oils may contain an estrogen-like compound; however,
they did not specifically identify the substance.
