Sugar-Packed Diet May Boost Pancreatic
Cancer Risk
(Reuters Health, 11/29/06)
Dr. Susanna C. Larsson of the Karolinska Institute in
Stockholm, and team, tracked 77,797 adults for about seven
years. The researchers found links between sugar consumption
and pancreatic cancer risk. For instance, the risk rose 69%
for subjects who added five or more servings of sugar to their
food each day compared to those who added none; it
rose 93% for those drinking two or more soft drinks daily
compared to those who drank none; and 51% for those eating
sweetened fruit soups or stewed fruit. These findings suggest
that reducing sugar in the diet may help prevent pancreatic
cancer.
