Polluted Air Might Increase Stroke Risk
(HealthDay News, 9/21/06)

Scientists report that data on stroke deaths in older people in 13 major Japanese cities from 1990 to 1994 show a correlation between elevated levels of particulants in the air and increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke within two hours of the spike in pollutants. These findings suggest that breathing contaminated air may have the immediate effect of triggering bodily mechanisms that significantly raise the risk of imminent stroke.
