Pollutants Threaten Poor, Minority Kids
(HealthDayNews, 3/22/06)
Janean E. Dilworth-Bart and her colleagues at the
University of Wisconsin, Madison, found that poor and minority
youngsters are more likely to be exposed to environmental
pollutants, like lead and pesticides, than more affluent
children. Since these neurotoxins can harm brain development,
as well as health in general, those exposed are put at greater
risk for lower IQ scores, inattention and aggression.
Government agencies appear to be lax on
protecting these children.
