High Homocysteine Bad for the Bones
(NY, Reuters Health, 1/13/06)

When Dr. Clara Gram Gjesdal of the University of Bergen in Norway, and colleagues, analyzed data from more than 5,300 middle-aged and elderly adults, they found that older women (but not men) with high homocysteine blood levels tended to have poorer bone mineral density (BMD). These findings suggest that women with elevated homocysteine should have their BMD tested and, where appropriate, take steps to reduce their risk of osteoporosis.
