Fatty Acid May Spur Prostate Cancer
Growth
HealthDayNews, 2/2/06)
Corn oil is rich in omega-6 linoleic acid, which the body
converts to arachidonic acid, which can signal the P13K gene
to turn on. When Millie Hughes-Fulford of the San Francisco
Veterans Administration Medical Center, and team, exposed
malignant prostate tumor cells to this fatty acid in the lab,
the cells grew twice as fast. The scientists note that, while
omega-6 doesn’t cause cancer, it can promote tumor growth.
These findings suggest that reducing the consumption of
omega-6 fatty acids may slow the growth of prostate cancer.
