Chronic Inflammation Could Spur Cancer
(HealthDayNews, 1/24/06)
Researchers at the National University of Singapore studied
almost 3,200 older Australians, who were cancer-free when
initially examined between 1992 and 1994. The investigators
tracked them until late 2001 and found that subjects with the
highest white blood counts were most at risk for dying from
cancer, especially lung cancer. Since elevated white blood
cell count is a sign of inflammation; these findings confirm
the association between inflammation and cancer mortality.
