Study Reveals How Fish Oils Help the
Heart
(HealthDay News, 7/24/06)
Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian of Brigham and Women's Hospital, in
Boston, and team, reviewed data from over 5,000 older adult
participants in the Cardiovascular Heart Study. The
researchers matched the subjects’ responses to questions about
fish consumption with electrocardiogram test results and found
a link between eating fish and healthy cardiac electrical
activity; including lower heart rate, a greater interval after
the heart received a signal to pump and when it actually
pumped and a shorter electrical re-set time after each beat.
The investigators report that just a couple of servings a week
of baled or broiled fish that are high in omega-3 fatty acids
is beneficial, but consuming even more is linked with even
better results.
