(NY, Reuters Health, 10/6/06)

Alexander Cole of Boston University, and team, studied data gathered by a large US health plan on more than 125,000 subjects, who had been seen for either irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or routine medical care. The investigators found that IBS patients were significantly more likely to have migraine, depression or fibromyalgia than their non-IBS peers. These findings suggest that a common biological mechanism underlies the four conditions.
