High-Fat, Copper-Rich Diet Boosts Risk of
Cognitive Decline in Elderly
(HealthDay News, 8/15/06)
Researchers at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago
questioned 3,718 older adults about their dietary habits and
tested their cognitive abilities at the outset of the study
and again three and six years later. The investigators found
that consuming high quantities of saturated fat and trans
fats, along with copper, may be linked to an accelerated loss
of the capacity to think, learn and remember.
