High Blood Calcium Tied to Better Stroke
Outcome
(NY, Reuters Health, 7/20/06)
Dr. Bruce Ovbiagele of UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles,
and team, report that higher blood calcium in 237 ischemic
stroke patients examined within 24 hours of symptom onset, was
associated with less severe stroke and better functional
outcome, These findings suggest that calcium supplementation
may be beneficial for patients who suffer ischemic strokes,
which occur when the artery that brings blood to the brain
becomes blocked.
