Ginseng Tied to Better Breast Cancer
Survival
(Reuters Health, 3/22/06)
Dr. Xiao-Ou Shu of Vanderbilt University in Nashville,
Tennessee, and team, tracked 1,455 Chinese breast cancer
patients for up to 6 years. The investigators found that
subjects who had never used ginseng were 30% more likely to
die during follow-up than those who had been taking the herb
prior to diagnosis. Furthermore, patients who began using
ginseng after their diagnosis reported better emotional
wellbeing than those who never tried the herb. These findings
support the results of other studies that showed that
constituents in ginseng may block the growth of malignant
cells.
