Dr. Dianne Volker of the University of Sydney in Chippendale and Jade Ng of Goodman Fielder Commercian in North Ryde, New South Wales, say that the experts should acknowledge the role of nutrition in mental health. They cite research that confirms that diet and nutrition may help people ward off depression, notably studies showing that nutrients, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids and various B vitamins, can increase the absorption of brain chemicals and thereby affect mood.
