Curry Spice Plus Cabbage Compound May
Fight Cancer
HealthDayNews, 1/20/06)
Ah-Ng Tony Kong and colleagues at Rutgers, the State
University of New Jersey, grew malignant tumors in mice by
implanting human prostate cancer cells. Three times a week for
four weeks beginning one day before the cancer cell
implantation, the scientists injected the mice with either
phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC), which is a compound found in
cabbage, or with the curry spice curcumin (tumeric), or a
combination of the two. The investigators found that either
separately or in combination, turmeric and PEITC blocked
prostate cancer.
