Blood Pressure Rises in Stressed-Out Workers
(NY, Reuters Health, 8/3/06)

Dr. Chantal Guimont, of Laval University in Quebec City, Quebec, and team, assessed the effect of job stress on blood pressure in 6,719 Quebec City white-collar workers. The researchers assessed the blood pressure of participants and had them complete questionnaires regarding physical activity level, smoking history and other cardiovascular disease-related factors, including family histories and relevant aspects of their work and social life. After, 7.5 years, the researcher found that subjects, notably men, who had consistently undergone job stress, especially with no social support, had higher blood pressure readings than those without job strain.
