Black Currants May Help
Thwart Alzheimer's
(HealthDay News, 1/23/06)
James Joseph of Tufts University reports
that anthocyanins and polyphenolics, two compounds found in
black currants, may help protect the brain against
Alzheimer’s. The researchers found that exposing brain cells
to these substances in a laboratory setting had a protective
effect on the cells. The scientists speculate that the same
effect may occur in the human body. These findings suggest
that the compounds may help prevent or slow the progress of
Alzheimer’s disease.
