10 Wash. Residents Tested, All Have
Toxins
(Washington, Associated Press, 5/24/06)
The Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition reports that tests of the
hair, urine and blood performed on ten Washington state
residents, reveals that every one of them has numerous
damaging chemicals in their bodies, including pesticides and
fire retardants. The Coalition admits that this was not a
scientific sampling; however Erika Schreder, the lead
scientist, maintains that the findings highlight the problem
of environmental pollutants making their way into the human
body, where they pose potential health risks. She believes
this should be “a wake-up call to the state's lawmakers and
Gov. Chris Gregoire.” The American Chemistry Council, on the
other hand, downplays the report, claiming that it is
insufficient to use as a basis for "far-reaching conclusions.” |
