Reactive
Blood Pressure Linked to Impaired Thinking
(NY, Reuters Health, 6/9/05)
Drs. Shari R. Waldstein and Leslie I. Katzel of the
University of Maryland School of Medicine assigned 94 healthy
adults three different three-minute tasks designed to evoke
stressful reactions. During the tasks, the investigators
assessed the subjects’ blood pressure reactivity and found
that subjects with greater reactivity scored lower in terms of
memory and mental performance. The results suggest that
hypertension may impair mental performance.
