Pomegranate Shows Promise Against Prostate Cancer
(HealthDayNews, 9/26/05)

Hasan Mukhtar of the University of Wisconsin, and team, gave high doses of pomegranate extract to mice that had been bred to have weak immune systems. The investigators found that that the extract inhibited cancer in both the living mice and in cell cultures in the lab. The scientists speculate that pomegranate’s anti-cancer effect may be due to antioxidants and say that they will perform further experiments to pinpoint the active ingredient in the fruit and identify its mechanism of action.
