Painkillers Can Cause Fatal Stomach Bleeding
 (Reuters Health, 8/24/05)

Dr. Angel Lanas, at University Hospital in Zaragoza, and team, gathered data from 26 Spanish hospitals on patients hospitalized for problems related to peptic-ulcers and on the drugs they took during the month before the incident. The investigators found that over a third of these patients had used aspirin (including low dose aspirin) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen. These findings underscore the need to find less harmful alternatives to treat pain and inflammation.
