Low-Fat Dairy May Reduce Diabetes Risk
(AP, 5/9/05)

Dr. Frank Hu of the Harvard School of Public Health, and colleagues, analyzed data from questionnaires filled out by 41,254 male health professionals in a long-term Harvard study. As the study progressed, more than 1,200 of the subjects who were originally non-diabetic had developed diabetes. Hu’s team, found that in a one-year period, subjects who ate low-fat dairy products had a slightly lower risk of developing the disease. However, the scientists did not distinguish whether this benefit was due to a component of the milk or “some hidden factor that the healthier men shared…”
