High Red Meat Consumption Linked to Colon Cancer
(NY, Reuters Health, 1/11/05)

Dr. Michael J. Thun of the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, and team, tracked 148,610 adults who had completed lifestyle questionnaires in 1982 and again in 1992 or 1993. The researchers found that the risk of developing colorectal cancer was 50% greater for subjects with diets high in red meat and processed meats than for those eating the least red or processed meat. These findings suggest that it may be wise to minimize the consumption of these foods.
