Study: Flu Shot Not As Effective in Elders
(London, AP, 9/21/05)

When Dr. Tom Jefferson and his colleagues in the Cochrane Review Group, an international collaboration of scientists, analyzed the results of 64 studies spanning 40 years of research, they concluded that flu vaccines are only about 28 % effective when given to seniors. Despite this finding, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continue to recommend that seniors get vaccinated to achieve some degree of protection and to lessen the severity of the illness.
