Fiber Guards
Against Colon Cancer
(HealthDayNews, 8/7/05)
According to the August 2005 edition of the Harvard Men's
Health Watch, eating dietary fiber may reduce colon cancer
risk by as much as 40%. And not only does fiber protect
against colon cancer, but studies show that it reduces the
risk of diabetes, heart disease and intestinal problems, like
diverticulosis. Dr. Harvey Simon, editor-in-chief of the
publication, advises people to “eat a good mix of high-fiber
foods." Good sources of fiber include bran, plant stems and
leaves, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. |
