Curry
Ingredient Fights Skin Cancer - US Study
(Washington, Reuters Health, 7/11/05)
Bharat Aggarwal of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson
Cancer Center in Houston, and team, exposed three batches of
skin cancer cells to vary amounts of curcumin, the yellow
compound in the curry spice turmeric. The curcumin inhibited
two proteins that tumor cells need to stay immortal, making
the cancer cells vulnerable to apoptosis, a process of
self-destruction. These findings suggest that curcumin, an
antioxidant, may help fight melanoma. |
