Vitamin E, C
Supplements May Prevent Alzheimer's
(NY, Reuters Health,1/19/04)
Dr. Peter P. Zandi of the Johns Hopkins University
Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, and team,
examined how Vitamin E, Vitamin C and multivitamin supplements
affect the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease. The researchers
analyzed data from more than 4,700 participants in the Cache
County Study and concluded that supplementing with a
combination of at least 400 IUs of vitamin E and 500 mg of
vitamin C daily significantly decreases the risk of developing
Alzheimer's Disease, but taking either vitamin alone does not
have the same protective effect. These findings indicate that
vitamins E and C may protect against Alzheimer's when taken
together in substantial doses. |
