Oils Reduce Heart Risk - Study
(New Orleans, Reuters Health, 11/9/04)
Dr. Christine Albert of Harvard Medical School, and
associates, analyzed data gathered during the Nurses Health
Study, which has tracked 76,000 women since 1984. The
investigators found that women whose diets contained more
alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) had a smaller risk of death from
heart attack. These findings suggest that women who want to
consume fatty acids in order to reduce their risk of dying
from heart disease, but who are concerned about mercury
contamination in fish, may find an alternative in the oils
contained in leafy green vegetables, nuts and flaxseed. |
