Eye Soy-Based Drug to Combat Cancer
(London, Reuters Health, 9/27/04)
Although studies indicate that consuming a soy-rich diet
long-term may lower the risk of breast cancer, researchers
have had difficulty getting the maximum effect from
isoflavones, the soybean components thought to create this
benefit. The problem is that the body quickly metabolizes the
isoflavones. Dr Karen James of the University of Portsmouth in
England, and team, having already shown that high doses of soy
compounds can reduce cancer cell growth, are now trying to
develop ways to make these compounds stay in the body long
enough to effectively combat the cancer. |
