Soy May Lower
Colon Cancer Risk
(HealthDayNews, 5/20/04)
Al Merrill and colleagues at Georgia Tech, Emory University
and the Karmanos Cancer Institute report that soy
glucosylceramide (soy GlcCer) suppressed tumor cells in the
intestinal tracts of mice. Soy GlcCer is one of a group of
molecules known as sphingolipids, found in plants and animals.
The researchers say that even a relatively small amount of soy
GlcCer, similar to that naturally found in soybeans, has an
anticancer effect.
