Scientists
Find Inflammation-Cancer Link
(HealthDayNews, 8/5/04)
Michael Karin and colleagues at the University of
California, San Diego School of Medicine report that chronic
infection and inflammation combined with chemical carcinogens
may give rise to malignant tumors. The scientists found that
they could significantly reduce gastrointestinal tumor
development in mice by deleting I-kappa-B kinase (IKK beta), a
gene involved in the inflammatory process.
