Research Raises Cancer Concerns Over Deodorants
(London, Reuters Health,1/13/04)

Dr. Philippa Darbre and colleagues at the University of Reading in Britain, report that they have detected parabens in breast cancer tissue samples. Parabens, which can mimic estrogen, are preservatives that are used in underarm deodorants. The current findings show that parabens can accumulate in human tissue and, therefore, lead researchers to contend that these chemicals might promote estrogen-driven tumors, but more research will have to be done before scientists can conclude that there is a deodorant- cancer connection.
