Permanent
Hair Dyes Tied to Adult Leukemia Risk
(NY, Reuters Health, 7/19/04)
When Dr. Garth H. Rauscher of the University of Illinois in
Chicago, and team, compared 769 leukemia victims to 623
leukemia-free adults, the researchers found that people who
had colored their hair with older (pre-1980) permanent dye
formulations one to five times a year for 15 years had more
than double the risk of developing leukemia as those who never
dyed their hair. The investigators note that temporary dyes
and newer formulas are not associated with the disease.
