Metabolic
Syndrome Is A Stroke Trigger
(San Diego, Associated Press, 2/6/04)
Researchers from the Framingham Heart Study examined data
for 1,881 diabetes-free adult children of the original study
participants. During a 10-year period, the investigators found
that subjects with metabolic syndrome had a significantly
greater risk of having strokes than their peers. Metabolic
syndrome symptoms include abdominal obesity, hypertension,
high triglyceride levels, low HDL (good) cholesterol levels
and elevated blood sugar. The findings of this study suggest
that aggressive treatment of the syndrome may prevent strokes |
