Metabolic Syndrome Is A Stroke Trigger
 (San Diego, Associated Press, 2/6/04)

Researchers from the Framingham Heart Study examined data for 1,881 diabetes-free adult children of the original study participants. During a 10-year period, the investigators found that subjects with metabolic syndrome had a significantly greater risk of having strokes than their peers. Metabolic syndrome symptoms include abdominal obesity, hypertension, high triglyceride levels, low HDL (good) cholesterol levels and elevated blood sugar. The findings of this study suggest that aggressive treatment of the syndrome may prevent strokes
