Mediterranean
Diet May Reduce Inflammation
(NY, Reuters Health,

Dr. Demosthenes B. Panagiotakos of Harokopio University in
Athens, and colleagues, interviewed about 3,000 Greek adults
and tested them for inflammation and blood-clotting. The
researchers found that subjects who most closely followed a
traditional Mediterranean-style diet—rich in vegetables,
fruits, legumes, whole grains, fish, nuts and olive oil, but
light on red meat—tended to have significantly lower levels of
inflammation and blood-clotting markers. These findings
suggest that the Mediterranean Diet may exert a positive
effect on health, particularly on cardiovascular wellness, by
reducing inflammation. (Source: Journal of the American
