Products Have Toxic Chemicals
(Washington, Associated Press, 7/14/04)
When the environmental group, National Environmental Trust,
had tests run on 40 common products—including hair dye,
lipstick, cleaners and paints—they found that 34 of these
items contained toxic chemicals that had not been listed on
the labels. The group’s research director, Thomas E. Natan, Jr,
expressed concerned about consumers being unwittingly exposed
to substances that can cause potential health problems, but
industry spokespersons, like Chris VandenHeuvel of the
American Chemical Council and Gerald McEwen of the Cosmetic,
Toiletry and Fragrance Association, claim that the level of
toxins in these products is too low to be of concern |
