Good Carbs
Cut Heart Disease Risk
(HealthDayNews, 2/23/04)
Dr. Mark A. Pereira of the University of Minnesota, and
team, analyzed data on diet and fiber gathered from 10
American and European studies, which included a total of more
than 336,000 adult participants. The researchers found a
significant link between consuming a diet high in fiber-rich
foods—like whole grains, fruits and vegetables—and a reduced
risk of heart disease and cardiac fatalities. Dr. Pereira
notes high-quality carbohydrate foods, like whole grains; are
beneficial; whereas, highly processed foods with empty
carbohydrates, like white bread and white rice, are not. |
