Glucosamine
and MSM Synergistic for Arthritis
(NY, Reuters Health, 7/21/04)
Drs. P. R. Usha and M. U. R. Naidu of Nizam's Institute of
Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India, treated 118
osteoarthritis patients with three daily doses of either 500
mg of glucosamine, 500 mg of MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), a
combination of both or a placebo. After 12 weeks, the
researchers found that, while the separate supplements reduced
joint pain and swelling, the combination worked even more
effectively at blocking these symptoms and improving joint
function. These findings demonstrate the increased efficacy of
treating osteoarthritis with both MSM and glucosamine, rather
than using these agents separately.
