According to the Mayo Clinic Health Letter, people whose diets are rich in plant-based foods tend to have a lower risk of developing serious disease, including certain cancers. The newsletter notes that citrus fruits may guard against pancreatic, prostate and breast cancer; cruciferous vegetables may protect against colorectal cancer; and tomatoes may inhibit prostate cancer.
