Eat More Oily
Fish and Be Healthy, Say Food Experts
(London, Reuters Health, 6/24/04)
After a yearlong investigation, experts from the British
Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced that the health benefit
derived from consuming four servings weekly of oily fish—like
tuna, salmon and mackerel—outweigh the small risk of toxin
buildup; however, the scientists advised females of
childbearing age to limit their intake to two portions a week.
John Krebs of the FSA said that the four-portion
recommendation took into consideration average levels of
carcinogens, like dioxins and PCBs, in oily fish. The
government experts believe that consuming oily fish will
protect against heart disease. |
