Compound in
Mom Key to Infant Development
(HealthDayNews, 7/16/04)
University of Kansas researchers report that pregnant women
with higher blood levels of Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an
essential fatty acid that affects the development of the eyes
and brain, tend to give birth to babies whose attention is
more matured, as demonstrated by their being less distractible
and more engaged with toys. DHA, a natural component of breast
milk, is now being added to some infant formulas.
