Cod Liver Oil
Eases Osteoarthritis Pain
(London, Reuters Health, 2/12/04)
In a study of 31 osteoarthritis patients, Professor Bruce
Caterson, and fellow researchers at Cardiff University in
Wales, gave subjects 1000 mg of extra-strong cod liver oil
before joint replacement surgery. The researchers found that
86% of subjects given the oil had significantly decreased
levels of enzymes linked to cartilage degeneration compared to
26% of the placebo group. These findings suggest that cod
liver oil may delay cartilage deterioration, lessen
inflammation and pain, and decrease the likelihood that a
person will need multiple joint replacements |
