Whole-Grain
Breakfast May Cut Men's Mortality Risk
(NY, Reuters Health, 3/19/03)
When Dr.Simin Liu of Harvard Medical School and team
studied the data collected for a group of 86,000 male
physicians, the researchers found that the more whole grains a
man reported consuming, the less likely he was to die during
the 5.5 years of the study. On the other hand, the scientists
found no such reduction in the risk of death for those who ate
refined grains. Based on these findings, the investigators
suggest that switching from refined to high-fiber foods will
have a beneficial effect on health. |
