The Use of Antioxidants with First-line Chemotherapy
In 2 Cases of Ovarian Cancer
(PubMed, Journal of American College of Nutrition, 4/22/03)

Researchers at the University of Kansas Medical Center monitored 2 women with advanced ovarian cancer who had elected to supplement their chemotherapy treatments with vitamin therapy. The patients each took high-doses of various antioxidants plus a multivitamin- mineral complex. The researchers report that Patient 1 had no signs of cancer recurrence 3.5 years after her diagnosis and Patient 2 showed no evidence of recurrence 3 years post diagnosis. As a result of these positive outcomes, scientists are now conducting a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of using antioxidant supplementation as an adjunct to chemotherapy for ovarian cancer.
