Type "A"
Personality Traits Linked
to Increase in Hypertension Risk
(Chicago, AFP, 10/21/03)
Lijing Yan and colleagues from Northwestern University in
Chicago analyzed data from the CARDIA study, which had
monitored 3,300 Americans for 15 years beginning in 1985. The
researchers found that young adults who exhibited "Type A"
personality traits, such as hostility, impatience and/or time
pressure, had more than double the likelihood of developing
hypertension in midlife than their peers. On the other hand,
the investigators found no connection between competitiveness
per se and high blood pressure. |
