Study Finds
WTC Fires Spewed Toxic Gases for Weeks
(NY, Reuters Health, 9/10/03)
Thomas Cahill and colleagues at the University of
California at Davis report that, contrary to the reassuring
statements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the
ruins of the World Trade Center emitted toxic gases for 6
weeks following 9/11/01. The scientists say that the collapse
of the burning towers created a smoldering, lung-damaging
chemical mix that included fine metals, sulfuric acid, fine
glass particles and super-heated organic carcinogens. NY
leaders have recently asked the Justice Department to look
into the matter of the EPA's deluding the public by
downplaying the seriousness of the health risk posed by the
burning debris. |
