(WebMD, 7/10/03)
Based on information provided by the FDA & Cindy Moore, MS,
RD of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, WebMD compiled the
following list of The Top 10 Trans Fat Foods:
- Spreads, such as Margarine, are high in both trans fats
and saturated fats.
- Packaged Foods, like cake mixes, have high levels of
trans fat.
- Pre-made Soups, such as ramen noodles & soup cups,
contain trans fat.
- Fast Foods -- including deep fried foods like fries &
chicken, as well as some pancakes and grilled sandwiches -
are loaded with trans fats.
- Frozen Food -- such as pies, pot pies, waffles, pizzas
and fish sticks -- have significant amounts of trans fat.
- Commercially Baked Goods - for example, cookies, cakes
and doughnuts -- contain more trans fats than any other
foods.
- Chips and Crackers get their crispy texture from trans
fats.
- Breakfast Food, including cereal and energy bars, are
highly processed and, despite claims that they are healthy,
are often full of trans fats.
- Cookies and Candy typically contain trans fat.
- Toppings and Dips, including nondairy creamers, flavored
coffees, whipped toppings, bean dips, gravy mixes and salad
dressings, contain substantial amounts of trans fat.
While it is difficult to eliminate trans fat from your
diet, you can minimize it by being aware, reading labels and
cooking from scratch whenever possible. |
