Helps Some Prostate Cancer Patients
(HealthScoutNews, 4/30/03)
Prostatic-specific antigen (PSA) is a marker for prostate
cancer. When researchers from the University of California,
Davis Cancer Center, gave 62 prostate cancer patients a daily
dose of 5 grams of genistein for 6 months, the scientists
found that many of the men with untreated cancers experienced
a significant decrease in their PSA levels; whereas, those who
had already undergone surgical, radiation or hormone
treatments did not respond and continued to show increases in
their PSA levels. |
