Research Shows Higher Cancer Risk for Flight Crews
 (London, Reuters Health, 10/21/03)

Scientists at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik report that flight attendants with 5 or more years on the job are at greater risk for breast cancer. In a separate study, investigators at the Stockholm Center for Public Health found an increased risk of developing malignant melanoma, a deadly skin cancer, for cabin crews. The researchers speculate that the increasing cancer risk may be due to longer flights at high altitudes, which expose airline personnel to more cosmic ionizing radiation.
