Red Wine Could be Good for Your Lungs, Doctors Say
 (London, Reuters Health, 10/28/03)

Dr. Louise Donnelly and team added resveratrol, a substance found in red grape skins, to lung fluid samples taken from 15 smokers and 15 people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The researchers found that the resveratrol reduced the production of interleukin 8, a chemical that causes lung inflammation, by 94% for the smokers and 88% for the COPD patients. These findings suggest that resveratrol may protect against chronic lung diseases.
